The Name
vampireisthenewblack, like all the best internet nicknames, was a rush job. I was pottering around the internet way back in 2009 under my real name (because back then I was all about the babies and the nappies and anonymity didn’t matter) and then I read Twilight. Suddenly I needed my anonymity, god forbid I out myself as being obsessed with a sparkly fictional vampire like some 14 year old girl!
Found myself on the big Twilight forum for grownups (not even gonna mention it) with need of a name that no one in my real life would ever discover. There was a thing that kept going around in my head back then, to do with vampire fiction and it’s resurgence to popularity.
I’ve always been a vampire fan. Vamps come in and out of cool, and at that point in time, they were sort of on the sidelines, but then Twilight happened and they were cool again. Vampires were the new black. I became vampireisthenewblack.
Even though I’m not actually writing much in the way of vampires anymore, I’m still a huge vamp fan and the name still fits. I love my name :)
The Writing Stuff…
I’ve been writing fanfiction and original fic since midway through 2009 (at least this time ’round – we won’t talk about the thousands upon thousands of Mary-Sue flavoured words I wrote about a decade ago for the BtVS fandom). It all started with a little book called Twilight.
Ahem.
There still remains the evidence of my obsession with a certain sparkly vampire, but I’ve sort of moved on now.
My moving on has coincided with my return to writing after a 6 month hiatus. And so as I sell off the remnants of my Twilight books, I embark upon a journey into writing and editing some Harry Potter fic (specifically, Harry/Draco). I’m also currently overhauling my blog, like whoa O.O
I’m currently in the process of uploading all my fic here to the blog where it’ll be searchable using the main menu by fandom and pairing. It may take a while to get it all up here, so in the mean time you can choose to go directly to AO3.
Sadly, I have a couple of unfinished (partially posted) twifics. I’m not sure if they will be completed, but I’m not writing them off just yet.
The personal stuff…
I’m in my 30′s, married, and a mum of two living in Hicksville, New Zealand. I spend far too much time writing (when I’m not horribly blocked) and not enough time cleaning my house.
I’ve been a vampire junkie since my teens and more recently, I’m an incurable slash addict. Put those two together and I’m in heaven (hence the Twilight draw, but Buffy the Vampire Slayer fits the bill there, too). I do prefer canon-set fics and I crush hard on Eli Wallace, Draco Malfoy, and vamp!Alec (Twilight).
I swear like a trooper, have a filthy mind, and I’m an epic pop-culture nerd. TV shows are freaking awesome, but I don’t have the patience to watch them on TV. I’d never survive without my favourite shows on DVD.
I’m very fannish and am not ashamed of it. Fandom influences my real life significantly.
My most treasured possession is my Eli shirt.

Though I’m writing Harry Potter fanfic, my knowledge of HP canon is actually made of suck. Thank jeebus for beta’s.
